They are also called South Pavilion and North Pavilion, by which the central axis of the front steps of Yellow Crane Tower is flanked. These pavilions add beauty to the main tower.

River-Overlooking Pavilion in the south sits opposite to Rainbow-Plucking Pavilion. Both adopt the shape of a square and an octagon. Both feature 9.5 m length and width, 2 m side length, 8 m column height and 13.85 total height. This reinforced concrete structure, looking like a wood-and-stone one, boasts vase-shaped top, bracket sets under the eaves, double pedestals at the bottom and carved balustrades. Octagon shape, double eaves, pyramid roof and stretched wings—these hallmarks contribute very much to each pavilion’s pompous elegance. Besides, red columns, yellow glazed tiles, emerald glazed tiles and golden paints make each pavilion most eye-catching.

As its name suggests, River-Overlooking Pavilion allows visitors to overlook the raging waves of both Yangtze and Hanjiang. Likewise, Rainbow-Plucking enables tourists to get hold of the rainbow. Their names are written in a vigorous yet delicate manner by Huang Songtao and Huang Liang separately.
